omg concentrating so much right now on staying on my chair
tropfest was great, all the films sucked but that was only because they weren't Silence Is Brown (directed by the one and only mark sutton) who's greatest achievement ever was shunned by this years incompetent judges..tisk tisk
the film that won was actually my favourite so that was a nice change from last year (coughSHITcough)
..and at the end of all the ceremonial wanking that happens at these gigs we had our seven seconds of fame when breaking onto the stage was this weird hobo guy on crutches with a cat on his shoulder that rambled on about the prime minister before being escorted off stage by security..WOOHOOO WE GAVE HIM OUR BEER ABOUT THREE SECONDS BEFORE THAT HAPPENED! heheh so we were way surprised to look up at the screen and see our beloved bogan make a scene of himself..totally priceless!
the story does infact continue beyond this however it is tainted by the greatest quantity of vom i have ever witnessed being expelled from a human being (not my own thank jebus) that i will stop there.
thank you all and merry tropfest WOO FUCKEN WOO

| | Irrelevant - Breathing flame, Blackened Tongue | ] | Well, I've been a little cynical about all this lj business, which I suppose explains the lack of updates. So here goes, just because I think some things are worth sharing, no matter how trivial.
Last Saturday night something spectacular happened. Resist Records, an awesome little music store come record label, completed their first national tour showcasing a select few of their awesome-great-mad-best aussie hardcore bands. This awesome-great-mad-best bunch consisted of none other than I Killed The Prom Queen, Irrelevant, Parkway Drive and Last Nerve.
I dont think I could have asked for more..not even if I was force fed Nonna's pukey mushroom gravy, listening to Creed, while being held at reasonably sharp knife point being told I should strongly consider asking for more.. Okay, I think you get the picture.
Anyway, my point is that it was an unbeleivable line up and so my expectations for the night were unbelievably massive. The best part was that everything lived up to it. Well kind of, Last Nerve were sort of average in my books but that might just be because I havent listened to much of their stuff and I like knowing music when I see bands. But they served as good entertainment while outside getting some super-icky-sweet Malibu&Cola, waiting impatiently for PWD to start. This is where the whinging stops. The wait was well worth it. Winston came on stage. That Man is Sex. That is all.

Right, where was I..? Yes, Parkway were just about to start and the night was set only to improve..infinitely. As I had hoped, dreamed and crossed many a pudgy finger for, they opened with "Smoke 'em if you got 'em". It made my life. Definitely my favourite track, by a long shot, of theirs and once again their live show did it justice (lots!) It was also really awesome watching the whole crowd get into it so early in the night. Only the second band onstage and already everyone was screaming the words.
..and here comes the solo, and oh look..there's those spirit fingers..(lets not forget the occasional 'Claw')
They went hard and fast and it was completely brilliant. I genuinely thought that had to be the highlight of the night. Then Irrelevant got out there. These guys have been around quite a bit longer and are fully aware of what makes an awesome show. Holy Fuck it was beautiful. After Words is an amazing track and seeing it live is just perfect. They played a bit of new stuff (which surprise surprise was also awesome-great-mad-best) from the upcoming album...WHICH OMG IS DUE OUT VERY SOON =) But it's safe to say that what can only be called the 'funnest' song of the whole night was when they did their very-uber-awesome-great-mad-best cover of Mötley Crüe's hit Kick Start My Heart. Nothing short of fan-firetrucking-tastic. There wasn't a silent emo kid in the house, everywhere you looked everyone was getting so completely into it.
This is the reason concerts happen, and this the reason we will continue to listen to those bands, spend ludicrous amount of our hard earned cash on tickets and merch and travel miles for the most distant of gigs.
I know how cheesy this might all sound but I really love so much how a band can get on stage and just do whatever it is that they love, their own music, and affect so many people at the same time. As much as this particular entry is wordy and wanky and goes on for way to long (for this I apologise, you should have stopped reading five minutes ago), there is nothing I can say that can get across what an awesome live show does for me, or anyone else who takes music to be as important, for that matter. You can't put into words what it does.. especially a quality hardcore gig, where the amount of energy onstage is only marginally outweighed by all the 'dancing' (you can replace that word with kung fu) of the crowd.
Speaking of which, this particular audience turned up with a mission, and it was almost scary. The amount of head walking was seriously concerning, and everyone was trying to out do the Last Guy so it got a little violent at times. This is the part where I admit I was with that bunch of guys doing the tango across the mosh pit. Those guys can go as hard as the best of them, but all in the name of having a fabulous time they thought being awesome dickheads would be way more fun, and it was so so so hilarious to watch..pretending we didnt know them. Their greatest moment would have to be the Nutbush. I salute you xpeterxnickxaaronx
Alright nearly done..just remembering where we are in the line up. Ah, the headliners. IKTPK never fail to impress. Never. Opening once again with When Goodbye Means Forever, I mean it works on the album, so why not always do it in the show! It's getting a little late and I'm a bit tired so whatever is written now will not do them any justice, not in the slightest. Regardless of this fact I still want to mention that these boys go great guns on stage and their little wannabe-davey-havok is a sight for sore eyes, you mark my words he is. Also, kudos to the mad Punisher belt buckle (..jealous!)
Thankyou Resist for putting on an awesome-great-mad-best concert at the one and only Manning Bar, for this I will be forever greatfull. It's a show that made an impression and thats about as much as you can ask of anything.
*On a quick side not, just want to add that due to the fact I'm a slow learner I've only recently gotten into Rise Against. But I have just enough time to listen to everything they ever wrote before these lovely lads reach our shores. They will be playing with Irrelevant end of January and I expect an equally brilliant show out of them again. Be there or be somewhere else. I know what portion of the sentence I am..do you? Also, dear Winston (ie, Parkway) can be found supporting Shadows Fall in February, another must see. So..ah..go see it!
cheers, me xxx |

| | Alexisonfire - Little Girls Pointing and Laughing | ] | I've never studied this much in my life.. I think I've been going solid all day.. but I'm gonna win.. so its okay.
The secret to success, I believe, is a timetable.. to make sure all the important bits are covered, you see.
So here's what kept me busy today: 10-12: alexisonfire 1-3: i killed the prom queen 4-6: taking sides, hot lies and grand fatal 8-nowish: mere theory and more alexis
You may wonder what I was achieving in my breaks (yes I am aware you dont give a shit.. I dont care.. I'm gonna tell you anyway) I was outside busy getting more sunburnt. Because that is the intelligent thing to do when you already look like a boiled salami.
All up today has been quite productive, which feels sort of odd now that its the holidays.
Also, I half intend on having some form of an early one tonight due to the fact that on the "considering actually doing it pile" I have tossed the final brekky show of Adam & Will. It's okay..I'll only have to wake up at FOUR THIRTY.. After all its on at Manning Bar and God knows I can't live without that place til the march semester kicks in.
so pillows down. bums up. its time for a snooze.

| | ..march of flames - The 20th Century Was Entirely Mine | ] | Okay so maybe Boy Sets Fire - On In Five just came on and maybe I just realised why I like these guys so much. Awesome awesome track on an awesome awesome album. But you get on a kinda roll when you listen to this stuff, so I am now finding myself making an uber best playlist of some quality HC
Due to the fact that I haven't heard them in yonks, Poison The Well have just found themselves queued up and competing for air time in my freshly constructed Grrr Playlist. And may i add that they are taking priority something fierce..can't understand why I've left it this long!! Aww man.. the most frustrating thing right now is the fact that you can only really successfully listen to one song at once..and there's just so much.
At the moment the aforementioned track listing goes a little something like this: Irrelevent Parkway Drive ( on a mad awesome tour very soon..!!) I Killed The Prom Queen Underoath Propagandhi Fear Before the March of Flames (new favourites)
..and to help with the coming down and just because they're also mad best bands I've stuck in a bit of (relatively) softer screamo: Alexisonfire Emery Reggie and the Full Effect (okay shut up so maybe they're just pop..they still have madcore moments..) Armour For Sleep A Static Lullaby
I do believe this has made my evening. I also love that a playlist can do that.
Well this is definitely longer than my average post and it doesn't even include any of last night. Heh, it wasn't really so great bombing out in the exams so that was a bit of a downer but I'm certainly glad they're all over..for now. And so last night was good fun in the fact that I could celebrate at least that bit of temporary freedom. Poohead's house also has the best instant coffee ever, which was muchly appreciated! ..because that stuff is definitely by far the best way ever to ignore the two bottles of sticky sweet passion pop downed the previous night! Nothing, I repeat NOTHING can ever come close to the place caffeine has in my life.
Well thats enough for now. I think, perhaps, an early one is required tonight.
ONLY TWO SLEEPS TIL COLEDALE
cheers, el mejor amigos!
